How to Use Commercial Laundry Machines

As we are now in the age of the smartest technology, there are now robots to fold and sort your laundry. All these come at a very expensive price. It finally happens that there are robotic multiple arms, artificial intelligence, and a neural network to determine how to hold your laundry and fold it, but washing it remains a human task that needs to be endured.

The good thing is that there is forward-thinking progress in the commercial laundry industry, but the price point for something like the Laundroid is probably out of reach for most hotels or other laundry business facilities.

Unfortunately, laundry machine technology isn’t always on the headlines, so it can be easy to miss the changes that are coming to the industry and the opportunities that are available for commercial laundry businesses.

Instructions:

Similar to operating a hotel shower, working some commercial laundry machines can be intimidating. Before diving into how each type of laundry machine works,  here’s a helpful checklist that Lucy’s Team has gathered to consider before using any type of common commercial laundry machine.

  • Check for left-behind clothes or coins and return to a lost and found
  • Wipe down the inside of the machine with a disinfectant wipe to kill any germs left behind
  • Smell inside the drum for bleach – some people overuse bleach and you don’t want to find that out after your wash cycle

Before selecting a unique cycle option, Speed Queen, Electrolux, UniMac, Wascomat, UniMac, Maytag, and Whirlpool machines operate using a standard set of payment controls. Operating these machines is simple. Follow the instructions for each machine type and you’ll have clean clothes in no time.

Card Operated Front-Load Washers and Dryers

  1. Toss clothes in the washer – make sure to not overpack the washer, instead loosely place clothes until the washer drum is between 75 and 80 percent full.
  2. Place detergent, fabric softener, or bleach in the correct tray.
  3. Insert your credit or laundry card into the slot. You can fill your laundry card online or at a pay station in the laundry room. Select the preferred wash cycle.
  4. After the wash removes clothes and place in the dryer.
  5. Clean the lint drawer.
  6. Insert your credit or laundry card into the slot. You can fill your laundry card online or at a pay station in the laundry room. Select the preferred dryer time.

Coin Operated Front-Load Washers and Dryers

  1. Once you’ve sorted clothes toss the load into the washer until the drum is roughly 75% or 80% full.
  2. Fill the detergent, fabric softener, or bleach trays with your preferred cleaning solution.
  3. Insert coins into the machine, choose the cycle, and start the wash.
  4. Remove clothes and place loosely in the dryer.
  5. Remove all lint from the lint drawer.
  6. Insert coins, select a dry time, and start the dryer.

Card Operated Top-Load Washers

  1. Open the top of the washer and drop in detergent and fill the washer drum about 75% to 80% with clothes – you can let the detergent and water mix while placing clothes in the machine.
  2. Insert the laundry card and select your preferred wash cycle and press start.

Card Operated Dryers

  1. Always remember to clean the lint filter – not only is a dirty lint filter a fire hazard but it also clogs the airway to the dryer resulting in poor performance.
  2. Insert your credit card or laundry card – you can fill your LaundryEye card with money online or at a pay station in your laundry room.
  3. Select the dryer cycle and press the start button.

Coin-Operated Top-Load Washers

  1. Open the washer lid and pour in detergent.
  2. Load the washing machine with clothes – roughly 75% to 80% full leaving enough room for the detergent to reach all of the clothes and space for the clothes to properly soak and spin.
  3. Insert coins, select your cycle, and start the machine.

Coin Operated Dryer

  1. The most important thing about operating a dryer is cleaning the lint filter before use. This is extremely important because a clogged lint filter is a fire hazard and negatively affects the performance of the machine.
  2. Insert coins into the machine.
  3. Select your preferred drying cycle and start the machine.

What Can You Take To The Dry Cleaning Service?

The dry cleaning process implies cleaning clothes or fabrics by using a liquid solvent that contains little or no water. Water is the only thing that separates laundry cleaning from dry cleaning. While dry cleaning the surface of fabrics, it does not perforate the fibers like water does in a washing machine.

History of Dry Cleaning

Just a little trip back to history, dry cleaning came about by accident in 1855. a French dye-works owner detected that his table cloth became cleaner after his maid accidentally spilled a kerosene lamp on it. The accident made the dye-works owner offer a new service and called it “Dry Cleaning.”

This is one reason why dry cleaners in ancient times used a variety of solvents including gasoline and kerosene to clean clothes and fabrics. After World War II, the volatile synthetic solvents carbon tetrachloride and trichloroethylene gave way to a product known as perchloroethylene (perc), which became the overwhelming solvent choice for the dry cleaning industry. It did a much better cleaning even if it was not safer and faster. It required less massive equipment, less floor space, and could be installed in retail locations offering excellent quality one-hour service.

Just a bit of friendly advice before dry cleaning, you have to carefully look at the laundry label tags of each fabric that says “Dry Clean Only” for you to know if they are safe to be dry cleaned.

A care label that says “dry clean” means that dry cleaning is recommended and you might be able to wash the garment at home. Before you wash the item:

  1. Check that the fabric is colorfast.
  2. Dab a little water on an inconspicuous spot.
  3. If any dye comes off, take it to be dry-cleaned

Lucy’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning aims to help make your laundry life a bit easier, here is our compiled list of fabrics that should always be taken to the dry cleaners.

Fabrics that should go to dry cleaners:

  • Fabrics with linen can be hand washed in cold and air dry but may require ironing. Linen is made from flax fibers and is known for being cool and fresh in hot weather. If washed incorrectly, it can lose its crispness and clean finishing. Dry cleaning is often best for linen clothing.
  • Special garments made of taffeta, silk, wool, velvet, acetate, and fabric blends that include rayon, silk, and wool should be professionally dry-cleaned unless the care label says differently:

Rayon

  • Rayon is semi-synthetic which makes it a tricky kind of fabric. It is made from purified cellulose fiber.
  • It shrinks or loses its shape when washed in warm water. Dyes may bleed when washed.
  • Hand washing in cold water with mild detergent is an option, but it is generally safer to dry clean this fabric.

Silk

  • Silk is known as a luxurious and durable fabric that has natural material.
  • It takes proper care to keep it soft and silky. The dyes in silk tend to bleed and that is why it should be dry cleaned or hand washed in cold water.
  • The use of mild detergent is highly recommended.
  • Dry cleaning silk tends to be easier especially if it’s an article of clothing you really care about.

Wool

  • Wool is a sturdy and durable fabric should be dry cleaned whenever possible.
  • Handwash the wool fabric in cold water If a dry cleaning process is not possible.
  • Avoid washing the wool fabric in any warm or hot water as it will shrink or lose its shape.
  • Leather or suede garments should be dry-cleaned. Their special fibers, textures, and shapes do not fare well with at-home care.

Fabrics that should not go to dry cleaners:

Cotton

Most cotton clothing has been preshrunk, too, so drying in a machine is safe. You’ll want to machine wash cold or warm with similar colors.

Synthetic fabrics

Synthetic fabrics like polyester, nylon, spandex, acrylic, and acetate. These kinds of fabrics won’t shrink so it’s safe to wash in warm water. I suggest you still must handle it gently or low on drying because they can permanently wrinkle in a hot dryer. They also produce a lot of static in the dryer so use a dryer sheet or hang dry.

Clothing that is lined (such as jackets or coats), pleated skirts, and garments made of fabric that shrinks or is not colorfast should be professionally cleaned.

Benefits of Professional Cleaning

Dry cleaning doesn’t have to be a lot of work. That is where professional cleaning takes charge and will definitely save you from replacing quality items in your wardrobe. Garments sent to professional cleaners will help maintain the correct garment shape and fit.

Simply planning a scheduled time of the week or month that you can send off all the necessary items to be cleaned. This way will save you time and money.

Don’t have time to make it to the laundry facility yourself?

Not a problem at all! Lucy’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning has a team of trained laundry experts who know how to handle with care every kind of garment.

We are the #1 laundry service for busy parents and professionals. We pick up, wash, dry, fold, and deliver all in 24 hours so you can get back to doing the things you love!

Tips on Getting Rid Of Dust Mites Through Cleaning and Laundry

Have you ever wondered where dust mites come from, why they exist and how can you get rid of them? This article will definitely help you with getting rid of dust mites.

We all know that dust is all around us in our homes, workplace, vehicles, and where there are humans and dust, there are dust mites…Dust mites are also known as bed mites. They are tiny insects that feed off dead skin flakes found on bed sheets, pillows, fabric, and specks of dust around your home. Although they don’t bite like bed bugs or head lice or spread disease, they can worsen allergies and asthma. It is the waste matter from the mites that cause allergic responses.

Dust mites are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Since they are so small, they float into the air when a fabric is disturbed, carpet is walked on, or when a vacuum is used. It is when they float that the dust mite droppings and pieces of dead dust mites most trigger allergies and can even cause asthma.

The Highest Concentrations of Dust Mites are Found in the Following:

  • Carpeting
  • Mattresses
  • Bedding
  • Upholstered Furniture
  • Stuffed Animals

Allergens can be any substance that causes an allergic reaction.

Common Household Allergens

  • dust mites
  • insect droppings
  • pollen
  • pet dander
  • molds

Luckily, there are many methods that you can reduce the misery by cleaning correctly to remove allergens. Regular weekly cleaning of your home is an important part of an allergy management plan.

In the Living Room

Living spaces at home should be cleaned at least weekly. It is recommended to vacuum the carpet every other day to capture the most allergens.

  • Start cleaning at the top of the room so that dust and allergens drift down to be captured by a damp mop or vacuum.

  • If you have plants, cover the soil with decorative rocks or marbles to help contain the natural molds that can grow in damp soil. Artificial plants should be dusted weekly and periodically given a shower to remove dust.
  • Rather than use chemical air fresheners, consider simmering citrus peels or spices like cinnamon and nutmeg to freshen the air.

The Key to Controlling Dust Mites

Minimize the number of places they can thrive. One of the best steps that you can do is removing wall-to-wall carpeting. Nonetheless, it is also essential to regularly clean area rugs and washes throw rugs.

  • If you do have wall-to-wall carpet, have it steam cleaned regularly because the heat of the steam will kill the dust mites.

  • Choose leather or vinyl upholstery rather than fabric. Or, make the upholstery easier to clean by using washable accessories like sofa covers and removable covers on throw pillows. Use a dust mite sanitizer vacuum on fabrics that cannot be washed.
  • Skip heavy drapes that can not be washed. Opt for washable fabrics, shades, blinds, or shutters.

In the Bedroom

The bedroom is the number one space where dust mites can be found. It is because of the bed linens, bed sheets, pillows, comforters, and duvet covers are the perfect materials for dust mites to thrive.

The best way to minimize the number of dust mite droppings is by doing laundry often and handling fabrics correctly. Thus, it is also vital to choose linens that can withstand frequent washing.

  • Clean the bedroom weekly, starting at the top and working down.
  • Dust ceiling fans and light fixtures, blinds, and/or wash curtains. Dust any furniture and use the hand tools, vacuum upholstered furniture.

  • Vacuum the floor including the spaces under the bed and furniture.
  • For the fewest allergens, remove wall-to-wall carpeting and use hardwood or solid tile flooring and washable area rugs in the bedroom.

  • Clean your closet by taking out all the clothes or other items and clean the closet from the inside. Use a vacuum cleaner or manually wipe off traces of dust or dirt on the surface.
  • Pay close attention to the corners of the closet and make sure that there are no dust bunnies present or huddled up in the corner.
  • Keep closet doors closed to reduce the transfer of allergens from clothing. Use covered plastic bins that can be cleaned easily to store unused items.

  • If you have dust mites problems in the bedroom, the bedsheets, blankets, and bed covers should be changed frequently and washed at least weekly in hot water (130 to 140 F) to kill the bed mites.
  • Coldwater will not always remove the allergens. However, if you prefer to use cold water, be sure to tumble dry the linens in a hot dryer for at least ten consecutive minutes at 130 F to kill the mites.

  • Changing the pillowcases more frequently like every other day is highly recommended for those with allergies and asthma.
  • There are also some fabric-covered items like mattresses, box springs, and upholstered furniture that cannot be easily washed. To remove dust mites, consider a fabric allergen sanitizer vacuum.

In the Bathroom

The humidity of the bathroom helps reduce dry skin and will cause the dust mites to thrive. The most dangerous allergens in bathrooms are mold and mildew.

  • You can remove mildew growth with chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide, or a commercial mildew cleaner. Keep in mind always to read directions carefully and NEVER mix different chemicals.

  • To remove mildew build-up, mix a solution of three parts water to one part bleach. Wear rubber gloves and ventilate the area well, use a stiff brush to scrub the affected areas.
  • For tight corners, saturate paper towels with the bleach/water solution and apply the towels to the mold. Allow them to remain in place for ten to 15 minutes and then scrub and rinse.

  • After every use, towel-dry the tub or shower enclosure. Check the tub, showerhead, sink, and toilet fixtures frequently for leaks and repair immediately.

  • Always hang towels to dry between uses. Towels and bath mats should be washed at least after two or three uses and in hot water.
  • Wash rugs, bathmats, and shower curtains frequently to inhibit mildew growth.

  • If you have a child with asthma or allergies, stuffed toys should be washed frequently – especially if the child sleeps with the toy. Most fabric toys can also be cleaned.

The acts of cleaning especially if it hasn’t been done in quite a while can trigger allergy symptoms as dust and other allergens are stirred up.

CLEANING is essential and should never be neglected especially for several weeks.

You Can Save Energy On Laundry Day

Laundry is no one’s favorite chore! It doesn’t help that washers and dryers are among the costliest appliances to operate. The reality is that we are stuck with doing laundry chores at least a few loads of laundry each week,

Are you looking for ways to do your part to conserve energy?

Read on to know that it’s worth taking steps to reduce energy use.

When is the best time to wash clothes?

Your washing machine will use the same amount of energy regardless of what time you run it. When you choose to do laundry has an impact on how much energy your washer and dryer consume. However, depending on your energy provider’s rates, you can often save on your energy bill by washing your clothes at different times of the day.

  • Try washing before 12 PM. or after 7 PM. The best time to wash clothes to save energy is usually outside peak demand hours. Many energy companies charge extra for electricity during their “peak hours,” which see increased energy usage.
  • During the summer, run your washer early in the morning – energy use peaks on hot afternoons.
  • Winter weather drives demand for electricity earlier in the morning, so wash your clothes late at night.

Create a laundry schedule with specific details on how many washes and types of load you are doing. This way will make your laundry routine work with your specific home, life, and family in mind and never run out of clean clothes again. Understanding how your current habits affect washer energy usage is the first step toward a more energy-efficient laundry system.

How do you save money when doing the laundry?

Coldwater Washes

Washing your clothes in cold water could save you $60 a year. Washing in cold water is also more than just a smart laundry energy-saving tip. Lower temperatures can help your clothes last longer by protecting dyes and preventing shrinkage.

Opt for Air Dry or Use Drying Racks

Air drying can help spare your energy bill an extra dry cycle and adds to your favorite T-shirt’s shelf life. Air-drying clothes on indoor clothing racks or outdoor clotheslines is the most cost-effective way to reduce laundry energy consumption. Air-drying may take longer, however, and the effectiveness of drying clothes outdoors, it goes without saying, is dependent on the weather.

Go for Bigger Loads

When it comes to small vs. large loads of laundry, a full load is a more energy-efficient option. If you need to do a smaller load, be sure to choose the appropriate size setting on your washing machine.

The same goes for dryer energy usage. Dry only full loads, and try to dry two or more loads in a row to take advantage of retained heat from the previous drying cycle.

Clean the Dryer’s Lint Trap

Clean your dryer’s lint filter every time you dry a load of laundry. Doing so improves airflow and dryer efficiency while reducing the risk of fire. Dryer lint is extremely flammable and can combust in hot environments.

Set-Up Sensor Drying Mode

Set up sensor drying if you have it. Overdrying clothes is a waste of energy. If your dryer has a sensor drying function, use it to detect low moisture levels so you aren’t tumble-drying and heating already dry clothes.

Use Dryer at Night

Dryers emit heat, which puts pressure on your HVAC system. To reduce the effect a dryer has on your home environment, run it at night when temperatures are lower.

Choose Natural Gas Over Electric Dryer

All clothes dryers use some electricity. Electricity powers the drums that tumble the clothes. Where the potential savings comes in is with the energy that heats the air drying the clothes. It’s here that natural gas is the winner.  Natural gas dryers heat up and dry clothing faster, shortening load times and reducing energy consumption.

Go for Front-loading Washing Machine

Front-loaders may typically have a greater tub capacity which means that it can run fewer loads to clean the same amount of laundry. It also tends to remove more water during the spin cycles, which in turn means less energy is needed to dry the clothes, assuming you’re using a clothes dryer. If you air dry, all things are equal obviously. Top-loading washing machines also use more energy to agitate the clothing.

I hope this article has enlightened you on saving energy on your laundry. If you are looking for a laundry service, let Lucy’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning redefine your laundry routine.

Tips to Stay Fit, Stay Healthy and Stay Clean

Staying healthy physically can help you stay healthy emotionally too. If you’re eating the right food and keeping fit, your body will be strong and help you to cope with stress and also fight illness.

Eating well and exercising often will also help you stay in good health later in life. Getting regular sleep is another really important way to stay healthy. Staying late at night can leave you feeling tired the next day. It can be difficult to break the habit of staying late at night. Nonetheless, try to aim for an 8-hour sleep each night.

If you want to start your journey to having a better body to feel great, here are some tips:

Make A Habit of Doing Daily Exercises

Yes, at least make a habit of doing exercises daily for at least an hour. Exercise is a great way to relax after a long exhausting day.

It is recommended to take at least half an hour to one hour of exercise every day if you can. You can build exercise into your daily or weekly routine and get your friends involved too which will help motivate you.

Exercise doesn’t have to mean taking part in a team sport or spending lots of money on expensive equipment. Try doing something you enjoy. It could be

  • Walking
  • Swimming
  • Jogging
  • Ice skating
  • Skipping
  • Dancing
  • Yoga

Quick Tips :

  • Go on a walk at a brisk pace for an hour
  • Jog and set certain intervals to sprint during that hour.
  • Make sure you’re not in severe pain during your workout.
  • Just a warning, your muscles will ache after a high-intensity workout. It may be irritating, but that means your body is changing for the better.
  • Be sure to stay hydrated, stretch, and eat foods with a decent amount of protein after each workout. The protein will help keep your muscles, not fat, rebuilding.

Eating the Right Foods and Portion Each Meal

Stay healthy by eating and drinking the right things can be hard to keep a healthy diet… most especially when there’s a temptation to eat sweets and junk food. But it’s important to get a balance in your diet of the right amount of each food group.

No matter how bad your stomach is telling you to go for candy over healthy food, try to stay away from sweets. Sugar from candy will not help you get in shape.

Quick Tips:

  • Fruits and vegetables are the best things to eat when getting into shape.
  • Apples are great for making the stomach feel full for up to 3 to 4 hours.
  • Green vegetables such as green beans and broccoli keep the digestive system clean and running.
  • Stick to lean meats like turkey and chicken.
  • Seafood like shrimp and tilapia are also great alternatives. These foods are full of protein and healthy nutrients to help keep muscles fit and ready for workouts.

“Most importantly, make sure to portion what you eat.”

Having a good metabolism comes from portioning meals. Try to plan out eating six times a day and setting smaller portions, rather than having three large meals throughout the day.

This will also help you find yourself breathing smoother when working out rather than huffing and puffing for air. This is because you will have less food in your digestive system, which means more energy is used in your exercise.

Quick Tips on Taking A Portion of What You Eat:

  • Carbohydrates – like potatoes, pasta, rice, and bread. A portion should be about the size of a fist.
  • Protein from non-dairy sources – like meat, fish, beans, soya, and tofu. A portion should be about the size of a deck of cards.
  • Dairy – like milk and cheese. A portion should be about 200ml of milk, a matchbox size piece of cheese, or an average pot (125ml) of yogurt.
  • Fruit and vegetables – at least five portions per day. For fresh fruit and vegetables, a portion should be about a cupped hand. For dried fruit, a portion should be about half a cupped hand.

Moreover, a balanced diet also includes drinks. Your body needs to stay hydrated to keep healthy.

Caffeine and Sugary drinks:

  • can cause mood swings
  • affect your energy levels, feeling full of energy before a “sugar low” where you may feel tired and grumpy
  • can make you put on weight if you have too much sugar
  • can give you trouble sleeping if you have them at night.

“It’s best to drink water and natural juices which don’t have loads of sugar.”

Get Enough of Sleep

Even though most of us have eight-hour jobs during the day or night, it is crucial to get enough sleep to recharge the body’s batteries.

Six to eight hours of sleep will keep the body going throughout the day, but if you happen to feel tired at any point after coming home from work, by all means, take a small nap before exercising. You should only nap for about a half-hour. This will prevent you from staying up later in the night.

An important key to staying healthy is to set goals and keep a positive mindset. If you stay positive, you will be able to push yourself to get that fit body you’ve always wanted.

Congratulations on taking a forward step to stay fit, stay healthy, and feel great!

Important Tips on Doing Laundry

This blog aims to provide you important tips on doing laundry the right way. Lucy’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning team have collected various tips on how to make laundry tasks faster and convenient.

Laundry is one of the mundane tasks at home that many would like to skip doing weekly.  Laundry can be mind-boggling from figuring out the easiest way to get out tough stains, what fabrics need bleach, what kind of detergent to use, or even as keeping your white clothing white and maintaining the colors of the fabric.

Lucy’s laundry team believes that it is always important to keep your clothes looking their best and smells fresh every day. Read on to learn more on about doing laundry:

Read Laundry Care Label

The number one thing you should always remember before throwing dirty laundry to the washer is to read the laundry care label of each clothing. You will get to know how you should wash your clothing. It is important to follow the instructions from the laundry care label tag to keep your clothing in good condition.

Laundry Sorting System

Sorting will help keep your white as clean and as white as always and keeping the dark-colored clothes from fading. This is very easy as A, B, C, and 1,2,3…. you just need to separate your laundry according to:

  • Whites
  • Light Colored
  • Dark Colored

Temperature

There are only 2 options to choose:

  • Using warm water for whites is the best option in doing regular laundry to your clothing. Although washing laundry in hot water helps get rid of grease, dust, and fungus. This is particularly good for socks and sheets.
  • Using cold water for colors helps prevent colors from “bleeding”, or soaking out in the water.

Washer Load Cycle:

The default cycle should be “regular.”

  • The regular load cycle of the washer is the longest cycle and has the fastest and most vigorous wash.
  • Spin cycles are when the machine spins out the water from the clothes. If you want to be eco-friendly, you may choose to hang your clothes to dry.
  • Permanent press cycle is for synthetic fabrics like rayon, polyester, and acetate as well as natural fabrics that have been treated with a chemical to resist wrinkles e.g. “no-iron” dress shirts.

Washer Load Size:

The usual load option sizes are small, medium, large, and extra-large.

Different amounts of water are required for each laundry. A typical top-loading machine uses the following scale for judging load size:

  • Small: clothing fills 1/3 of wash drum before adding water
  • Medium: clothing fills 1/3 to 1/2 of wash drum before adding water
  • Large: clothing fills 1/2 to 3/4 of wash drum before adding water
  • Extra-large: clothing fills wash drum 3/4 to completely full before adding water

Laundry Detergent:

Powder, Liquid or HE

  • Powder detergents are cheaper per load than liquid detergents and better at getting out stains like dirt and clay than liquid detergents.
  • Liquid detergents dissolve better in cold water. They are more expensive, but better at getting out organic stains like blood, grass, and pizza sauce.
  • High Efficiency (HE) detergents are specifically designed for HE washers and more expensive than regular detergents. They are low-sudsing and quick dispersing for use in low water volume machines.

Always remember that not all clothing should always be washed after every use. There are clothes that need to be washed frequently and others shouldn’t be washed at all.

  • Immediately after one wear: underwear, socks, undershirts, t-shirts, tank tops, shirts worn with no undershirt
  • After one to three wears: pajamas, button-downs, sweaters (Wearing undershirts will prolong the time between washes. A loser sweater could be worn up to six times if undershirts are worn.)
  • After two to four wears: khakis, dress pants, cargo pants, shorts
  • After four to seven wears: jeans, unless they’re selvage (Washing selvage denim should be put off as long as possible to allow the natural distressing process to unfold.)
  • Following after five to seven wears: blazers, jackets (You may be able to prolong the time between washings by spot-cleaning and using a fabric refresher to eliminate light odors.)
  • Weekly: towels
  • Weekly to biweekly: bed sheets

Top 3 Eco-Friendly Tips on Laundry

Eco-friendly is also called environmentally friendly, going green, or earth-friendly which refers to doing no harm to the environment. Being eco-friendly is not just simply turning off the lights every time you leave the room or separating your garbage for recycling. Being eco-friendly is all about changing the purpose of your lifestyle.

House chores are one way to start your practice. You can start making a habit of being eco-friendly. One perfect example is the laundry. As we all know, there are many environmental impacts that are linked with doing the laundry.

Eco-Friendly Tips You Can Do With Your Laundry:

Practice No Drying of Clothes

Every time you use the dryer vents there are harmful fumes that come out of it. In some cases, there might even be carcinogens that tend to decrease indoor air quality. They will contribute to air pollution in the environment.

It is best to practice not using the dryer after washing your laundry. This will not release toxic fumes into the air. The dryer tends to damage the fibers over time. One best alternative that you can do is line drying of your clothes. This way, it will reduce your carbon footprint.

Practice Choosing and Using Wisely an Eco-Friendly Laundry Detergent

Many laundry detergents contain phosphates that can lead to eutrophication. Eutrophication is the process by which a body of water becomes enriched in dissolved nutrients. It stimulates the growth of aquatic plant life usually resulting in the depletion of dissolved oxygen.

It is best to practice choosing and using wisely a laundry detergent that is phosphate-free. You should learn to use just the appropriate amount of detergent to your laundry.  More detergents you use means more chemicals that will enter the waterways. Moreover, this will affect the efficiency of the washing machine over time. In conclusion, using less detergent will decrease the chance of skin irritation. It will be easier to rinse out of your clothes.

Practice Washing In Full Loads Always

As we all know washing machines use a lot of water considering all the rinsing and washing cycle that goes on.

It is best to practice washing in full loads always. Avoid doing small loads of laundry. The washing machine ultimately will be using the same amounts of water and energy regardless of what’s inside.

Going green or being eco-friendly or earth-friendly is becoming more and more important nowadays. Lucy’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning believes that it is possible to lessen the impact of doing laundry the wrong way that it has on the environment.

Lucy’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning is making all of their best efforts to go GREEN.

  • Use GREEN dry cleaning chemicals and the eco-friendly Vulcan water conditioner for a cleaner, brighter clothes
  • Have new energy-efficient state of the art commercial washing machines in our facility. These machines save on energy and water consumption.
  • Use of an environmentally-safe laundry detergent that does not pollute the environment.

Benefits of Using A Laundry Service

Laundry is one of the house chores that can be difficult to fit into your family’s busy schedule. Work, family, school, travel, and other social engagements can make one’s life get busy. That’s why when it comes to housekeeping, we are excited about any innovative solutions that can save us time.

When you’re short on time, washing, drying, and folding a few loads of laundry can be a great hassle. Fortunately, we live in modern times where automatic washing machines and dryers substantially cut down on the time and labor that goes into doing laundry.

On the other hand, there are households that do not have the space or luxury of owning their own washer and dryer. As a result, they are fitting in time-consuming trips to a laundry service facility during precious weekend hours when you should be relaxing.

This is where the significance and benefit of a laundry delivery service can have a huge impact on your life.

Keeping Your Laundry Clean In this Crucial Time

Keeping your laundry clean is the primary goal of Lucy’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning. Most especially in these challenging times while dealing with a serious virus.

It’s surreal with so many changes currently happening in our world. The team at Lucy’s Laundry is doing all that we can to comply with all safety regulations and protect our valued customers.

  • We are doing our part to support the fight against COVID19.
  • Lucy’s Laundry Team makes sure your laundry is being cleaned and sanitized.
  • We have been taking extra precautions to ensure that we create a clean and safe environment for both our customers and our employees.

Your safety and the safety of others all depends on us coming together as a community. Our cooperation with one another is important to avoid the spread of viruses.

It is our responsibility, to our community, to place guidelines that will help you and those surrounding you to properly wash your clothing in a way to help eliminate and prevent spreading viruses.

Regular cleaning of clothes will help in the prevention of spreading diseases. Thus, we have gathered several guidelines for you to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Here are Lucy’s Laundry Guidelines:

  • Do not shake dirty laundry. This minimizes the possibility of dispersing the virus through the air. Wash items in accordance with the directions.
  • If possible, launder items using the warmest appropriate water setting for the items, and dry items completely. (Please note that dirty laundry that has been in contact with an infected person can safely be washed with other people’s items).
  • The hotter the wash, the better! (The CDC recommends washing items in a temperature of at least 140 degrees).
  • Use the dryer. According to research, viruses hate heat. Therefore, drying clothes will further prevent the spread of the disease.
  • Use the right amount of soap. Too much soap creates excess suds that enable dirt and grime to remain trapped inside the fabric. The right amount of soap will properly clean and then be rinsed from the clothing.
  • Clean and disinfect clothes baskets, carts, and hampers. Clean these items as often as possible and use a bag liner, if available.

  • Above all, Wash your hands!
    1. Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold)
    2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
    3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. I suggest humming the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
    4. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
    5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.

We will also be doing our part in helping prevent the spread of viruses with the following actions:

High Touch Sanitizing

  • Lucy’s Laundry team is sanitizing high-touch surfaces every 2 hours for your safety. High touch surfaces including wash buttons, dials, and X-Changers.

Attendant Shifts & Gloves

  • Lucy’s Laundry team will be wearing gloves during all interactions with each other and customers.
  • Attendant shifts will abide by social distancing to reduce attendant-to-attendant contact.
  • All attendants will require doctor clearance if they display signs of sickness.

Wash Cycles & Detergent

  • We have confirmed with our vendors that our fluff- n- fold detergent is effective against viruses.
  • Where possible, we will be moving to high-heat wash and high-heat dry.

Self-Serve Customers

  • As a precaution, if a customer is displaying any signs of illness, we will be kindly asking them to leave the laundry in order to protect fellow customers, and employees.
